07.05.2012 - Grasinger, Loader and Stevenson all play for Austria vs Germany
Benji Loader and Dan Stevenson were part of the Austrian national team that beat Germany comprehensively by 8 wickets in their first game on 5 May 2012 in Seebarn. Stevenson, making his Austrian début was quickly at home with his spin bowling taking 3-24 in 9 overs and holding a catch, while Loader also took a catch to dismiss Germany's centurion, André Leslie for 105 as Germany made 207 all out.
In the Austrian reply, lead by an explosive 116* off 91 balls for Lakhmal Kasturiarachchige and 41 by Satyam Subhash, Loader scored 21 before being out caught as Austria made light work of the target of 208 - reaching the total with 20 overs to spare.
In the second game on 6 May 2012, there was to be no repeat of the emphatic victory. Erwin Grasinger was the sole Vienna CC player in the Austrian team, batting at 6 and making 16 in Austria's 224 all out in 49 overs. A minor wobble in the German reply seeing them slip from 182-3 to 199-6 was to proof short-lived as the German team came home to win by 4 wickets with 4 overs to spare.
Brian Mantle, scoring for Germany, was very complimentary about cricket in Vienna and the Seebarn ground. Hopefully there will be regular fixtures between Austria and Germany.
